Usually for a pretty insignificant upgrade of 1-2 weapons. The having to stop for 10-15 minute, to check upgrades on 10 weapons after each mission is the absolute worst part of the game. Hard to compare to the 1st game, as the first game had one of the best stories in an FPS in years.ĮDIT: Currently replaying SH2 and I got to admit. The biggest complaint in 2 I heard repeatedly was they had to turn it off instantly the second the teenage girl comes in to the pictures-like 30 minutes in. Story in 2 was hated because of the teenage girl for some people, but didn't brother me. Picking stuff up was annoying too, but IMO 2 was better than 1 if ignore the story. when up to that point had been super easy. The real issues with 2 was all the tedious loot customization IMO and the side missions where the bad guys would suddenly be able to kill you without too much effort. And all the interactions of the characters in 2 happen at set bottlenecks. 1st one had non-linear levels interspaced any time you were in cities of people levels. Having said all that, I don't think the linear/non-linear aspects made much difference in the two. I thought it was much more balanced gameplay and the levels were way larger than the first game. They also reduced the sponginess of the enemies in the main storyline-side quests did not adhere to this which is where most people found difficult/spongy. 2nd game, they made it possible to do builds that use firearms or favor them entirely(no sword) which was a huge step forward in my opinion. In the 1st game, end game build required the sword against all the spongy enemies. I was more interested in the combat in the two games, and found 2 to be a huge improvement.
